East & West Gate Lodges

Renovation & Conversion

East and West Gate Lodges sit to either side of the main entrance to Balblair House. Built in around the 1850's, they were designated as listed buildings (protected) in 1984 together with the entrance gates. Originally, West Gate Lodge would have provided accommodation for staff whose job it was to look after the horses and dogs. East Gate lodge houses original purpose built dog kennels, and stabling. In later times, when horses started to be replaced with motor cars, the stables were converted for use as garaging, and there remains in place an inspection pit and the original 1930's Shell Petrol pump.

West Gate Lodge has been completely refurbished to provide very high quality 2 bedroom (sleeping 4) self catering accommodation. Everything has been replaced and upgraded and a Swedish wood fired hot tub is provided in the garden.

We have recently been granted planning permission and listed building consent in order to convert East Gate Lodge into high quality one bedroom (sleeping 2) self catering accommodation. This will be carried out to the same standard as West Gate Lodge, and will also include the installation of a Swedish wood fired hot tub.

The original garage, with inspection pit and 1930's fuel pump, will remain unchanged and the small barn will be converted for use as covered outdoor seating area for East Gate Lodge.

Works on East Gate Lodge are commencing around spring 2021 and we hope that we are able to take bookings for East Gate Lodge from 1 September 2021
